Note: A $25 deposit (non-refundable) is required at the time of your registration. All outstanding balances must be paid at least 2 weeks prior to your class date.
Class Information
Students are instructed from the very beginning on the fundamentals of handgun safety and operation of various types of firearms, including revolvers and semi-automatics. And several hours of the class are devoted to a presentation of the law that governs the use of deadly force in North Carolina.
These classes are intentionally kept to around 6-8 students and very family-friendly. A $25 deposit is required to confirm your seat at the time of registration. Classes are often more than 50% female. The student who successfully completes the Certified Concealed Carry Handgun Class will be awarded with the required certificate to apply for a CCH Permit at the local NC Sheriff's office. Although not required, some experience in handgun shooting is indeed a plus.
To be eligible for a CCH permit in NC:
- Must be a US Citizen
- Must be in NC 30+ days
- 21+ years of age (you can take the class before 21)
- Not under felony indictment
- Cannot have felony conviction
- Cannot be fugitive from justice
- Cannot be unlawful user of controlled substances, alcohol, narcotics
- Cannot be judged to be mentally ill or lacking mental capacity
- Cannot have dishonorable discharge condition from armed services
- Cannot be convicted, PJC or suspended sentence for various misdemeanors of violent crimes
- Cannot be free on bond
- Cannot have impaired driving conviction in past 3 years
For a total of $75 you get the full CCH class and use of handgun and ammo is only $20 more. A nonrefundable $25 deposit is required at the time of registration to reserve your spot. In addition, larger group discounts with special dates are available...contact me for details at stevcole@gmail.com.

Course Overview
North Carolina law requires the classes to be 8 hours in length which will include:
- A review of handgun safety, storage, types, operation, and handling procedures
- Students will learn/demonstrate load/unload/safety procedures
- A review of CCH firearms, concealment techniques, clothing and holsters
- 4 hours of the instruction will cover the legal requirements and is based on the publication “Laws Governing Concealed Handgun and Use of Deadly Force” that has been prepared by the North Carolina Justice Academy
- Successfully passing a 20 question exam with a score of 70% or more
Other notes and items you will need:
- Class begins promptly at 8:00 and usually ends about 4:00 PM
- I would encourage everyone to arrive around 7:45 to get checked in and settled
- Bring pens/pencils/paper, eyeglasses, etc.
- You will need to bring your own portable coolers with water, soft drinks, lunch, snacks, etc.
- No firearms or ammunition are allowed inside the classroom! Please ensure that you do not forget!
- You are also welcome to bring holsters but they are not required
- We will be shooting from the standing low-ready position and there will be benches for the staging of ammo, cases, etc.
- Empty shell casings will remain at the range
- Make sure you bring over-the-ear hearing protection and safety glasses which are required at the range
- Bring some extra shoes/boots/jackets/gloves in case of less than ideal weather conditions, after all it is an outdoor range
- I will provide the targets at the range
- You will be shooting at targets from 3, 5, and 7 yards
- I will also show numerous instructional videos during the class time to make it easier to understand the techniques and shooting qualification
- If you do not own or plan to bring a handgun of your own you can rent one of mine and the ammo for an extra $20
